'And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom'.
- Anais Nin

Hello, my name is Julie Jeffs. I am the founder of Psychotherapy Plymouth and The Waterloo Wellbeing Centre.

As you are visiting our website, it is possible that you or someone close to you is experiencing some form of difficulty. You may have a personal wish or professional need (or both) to develop greater self-awareness. You may be struggling in your relationship and need support to talk through your concerns, with your partner, in a safe and supportive environment. Relationship Counselling can provide a safe place for couples to talk through their difficulties and have an opportunity to feel better understood by each other. Private counselling and psychotherapy can support individuals; couples and families gain perspective; work through areas of concern and make positive changes.

We provide counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families facing a wide range of difficulties including alcohol problems, anger management, anxiety & stress, bereavement, communication problems, marital problems, low mood, loss of confidence/self esteem & work related issues.

We offer a wide range of therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, couples counselling, integrative counselling, core process psychotherapy, family counselling and mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) to alleviate depression/stress and promote wellbeing.

We also provide employee assist services including short term solution focused counselling and mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) courses for stress reduction to local businesses. Our tailored mindfulness courses can, if required, be offered at employers facilities.

Professional counselling and psychotherapy might be considered a sound investment as it places emphasis on personal care, self-development and wellbeing.

Why choose therapy
People usually choose therapy because they are experiencing difficulties and distress in their lives. Distress can often cause symptoms of anxiety and depression which can have an impact on work, significant relationships and emotional wellbeing. Sometimes people can be isolated but at other times, even when a person has a supportive family and friends, they prefer to talk to someone who is objective and independent of their family unit.

Often life has a strange way of presenting us with the unexpected. Bereavement, loss of a job, divorce and/or separation, ill health, injury or disability to name a few. Life changing events can generate stress, depression and deep feelings of isolation and emptiness. The benefits of Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy are known to include stress reduction, stability in mood and general wellbeing, personal insight, greater clarity and self-acceptance, inner fulfilment and improved relationships.

It is not unusual for people to struggle when attempting to change entrenched patterns of behaviour. This often causes emotional pain and confusion for individuals and others around them.
Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy can provide a gateway to examine what life would be like without these particular behaviours (often destructive) and empower clients to promote the concept of change without judgement and discrimination. This process enables clients to see possibilities for change and decide if change is desirable.
