' At the centre of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want'. - Lao-tzu

We are a dedicated team of practitioners with a wide range of experience and specialities who provide a professional counselling, psychotherapy and supervision service at the Waterloo Wellbeing Centre.

As you are visiting our website, it is possible that you or someone close to you is experiencing some form of difficulty.

Private counselling and psychotherapy can support individuals; couples and families gain perspective; work through areas of concern and make positive changes.

You may be struggling in your relationship and need support to talk through your concerns, with your partner, in a safe and supportive environment.

Relationship Counselling can provide a safe place for couples to talk through their difficulties and have an opportunity to feel better understood by each other.

You may be feeling stuck and jaded personally or professionally (or both).

Our Mindfulness Courses could help you develop greater self-awareness, calmness and ability to focus and creative activity generally.

Mindfulness based approaches are recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence as a suitable treatment to deal with stress and to help prevent depression relapse.

Employee Assistance Counselling:

Professional counselling for stressed staff-members might be a sound investment. Placing emphasis on personal care, self-development and wellbeing, it may help to reduce time lost through ill-health and improve motivation and creativity

We also provide employee assistance counselling services and run courses in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for stress reduction in conjunction with insurers and larger businesses. We can provide a bespoke employee assistance programme tailored and adaptable to the developing needs of your business.

All these can be offered at Waterloo Wellbeing Centre

We provide counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families facing a wide range of difficulties including alcohol problems, anger management, anxiety & stress, bereavement, coping with life threatening/terminal illness, communication problems, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, loss of confidence/self esteem, loss of direction and work related issues.

We offer a wide range of therapeutic approaches including CBT, DBT, emotionally focused couples therapy (EFT), integrative counselling, core process psychotherapy, systemic and family counselling, work place counselling and Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) a recommended treatment by NICE guidelines to alleviate stress/depression and promote wellbeing.

Why choose therapy
People usually choose therapy because they are experiencing difficulties and distress in their lives. Distress can often cause symptoms of anxiety and depression which can have an impact on work, significant relationships and emotional wellbeing. Sometimes people can be isolated but at other times, even when a person has a supportive family and friends, they prefer to talk to someone who is objective and independent of their family unit.

Life has a way of presenting us with the unexpected. Bereavement, loss of a job, divorce and/or separation, ill health, injury or disability to name a few. Life changing events can generate stress, and at times feelings of isolation and emptiness. The benefits of Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy are known to include stress reduction, stability in mood and general wellbeing, personal insight, greater clarity and self-acceptance, inner fulfilment and improved relationships.

It is not unusual for people to struggle when attempting to change entrenched patterns of behaviour. This often causes emotional pain and confusion for individuals and others around them.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can provide a gateway to examine what life would be like without these particular behaviours (often destructive) and empower clients to promote the concept of change without judgement and discrimination. This process enables clients to see possibilities for change and decide if change is desirable.
